Installation precautions for gate valves

1. Installation direction and location
No strict requirements for the flow direction: gate valve media flow can be bidirectional circulation, the installation does not need to strictly distinguish between import and export, but it is recommended that the valve body arrow mark (if any) or the media commonly used in the direction of flow installation.
Position selection:
Horizontal pipeline, the valve stem should be vertically upward or tilted ≤ 45 °, avoid horizontal installation (to prevent valve stem jamming).
Vertical pipeline installation, the gate is opened to ensure that there is no risk of suspension, if necessary, set up a bracket to support the weight of the valve.
2. Piping and sealing requirements
Pipe cleaning: Remove welding slag, rust and other impurities in the pipeline before installation to avoid seal failure due to jamming when the gate is closed.
Flange sealing: flange gaskets need to be compatible with the medium (e.g. rubber gaskets for water, metal wound gaskets for high temperature steam), bolts are uniformly tightened (diagonally tightened, torque in accordance with design requirements).
3. Driving device and support
Electric/pneumatic device: ensure that the drive shaft is coaxial with the valve stem when installing, avoiding eccentricity leading to opening and closing stagnation; outdoor installation needs to be covered with waterproof and dustproof.
Bracket setting:
Large-calibre gate valve (DN ≥ 200) need to be set upstream and downstream of the valve independent support to prevent pipeline deformation due to valve weight; high temperature pipelines need to consider thermal expansion compensation (such as sliding bracket).
V. Maintenance and Common Troubleshooting
1. Daily maintenance
Regular lubrication: Valve stem threads, drive device gears need to be regularly coated with grease (such as molybdenum disulfide) to prevent rust jamming.
Sealing check: detect the leakage of valve flap and valve seat under closed state, soft seal gate valve allows zero leakage, metal seal gate valve leakage needs to comply with API 598 standard.
