Structural characteristics and application scenarios of globe valves

Nov 22,2021

Globe valve is a commonly used disconnecting valve, through the valve flap along the centre line of the valve seat for lifting movement to control the medium on and off, with regulating the flow and disconnecting the dual function. The following detailed analysis from the working principle, structural characteristics, application scenarios, installation and maintenance:
The principle of work
Opening process:
Turn the handwheel or drive device, the valve stem drives the valve flap upward, away from the valve seat sealing surface, the medium from the valve seat below the inflow, above the outflow (i.e., ‘low into the high out’), the formation of the circulation channel.
Closing process:
Reverse rotation of the handwheel, the valve flap downward pressure on the seat, the sealing surface fit to block the flow of media.
The core structure and classification
1. Main structural components
Valve flap: divided into plunger type (for small diameter), needle type (precision adjustment), streamline (reduce resistance), etc., and the valve seat to achieve sealing.
Valve seat: sealing surface often surfacing cemented carbide (such as Staley alloy), wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, the material is selected according to the medium temperature and pressure.
Stem: transfer opening and closing force, need to cooperate with the packing box to achieve sealing, divided into open stem (exposed, can visually judge the opening and closing status) and dark stem (hidden, suitable for space-constrained scenes).
Driving device: manual, electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc., large diameter or high pressure conditions commonly used electric actuator.
